Baltic Dry Index

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships ferrying dry bulk commodities, eased for the sixth successive session on Wednesday, falling about 4.6% to a fresh low since September 2023 at 1,180 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped 183 points to its lowest since mid-September 2023 at 1,609 points, weighing on the main index. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain cargo, snapped its 13-day losing streak, rising 9 points to 1,014 points, though it remained near a 16-month low. Among smaller vessels, the supramx index increased 3 points to 982 points.
